HCRCR Breaks the GCS Entry Record – What a weekend of Racing! 168 Entries!

January 31st, 2011 Posted by JP

Race report from jconceptsracing.net

“The 1st round of the Georgia Championship Series was held this past weekend at the new Henry County RC track named, “The Wasteland.” This track is located just outside of Atlanta and features a fantastic drivers stand and an awesome track. The unusual 60+ degree weather was a welcome change to the 150+ racers attending the event.

There was plenty of racing action with several new electric classes to the series. The sportsman classes were well attended also and provided lots of close action throughout the day. And as always, the Pro classes provided some fast action and close competition.

The 1/8 Electric Buggy class was TQ’ed by Shannon Amos after turning some quick and consistent qualifying laps. The 10-minute main provided 3 lead changes, with Barry Pettit coming out on top in front of Ryan Lopez and Shannon Amos. It was Pettit’s first outing with the new MBX6 ECO.

The Pro Truggy class was TQ’ed by Mike Battalie, driving 17 hours from Texas for the race. Timmy Smith was not to be denied as he motored his way to the front and maintained the lead the majority of the race. Timmy led the most important lap, the final one, to take the victory with Shay Brand and Battalie very close behind.

Pro Buggy was the final of the night, taking place at 1 AM. The cool Georgia air provided some quick lap times and several lead changes. In the end it was Ryan Lopez out front with Barry Pettit close behind and Mike Battalie in third.

JConcepts was well represented in all classes and provided some great traction on the unique Georgia surface. Pettit was running the green Hybrids on his E-buggy to take the win, and green Subcultures on his nitro buggy turning the fastest laps and barely missing the win in Pro Buggy. Timmy Smith was on blue Sevens with his dominating run in Pro Truggy.

The second round of the Georgia Championship Series moves on to Dalton, Georgia, in several weeks. It is a great series with close competition in all classes. The Georgia tracks have stepped up their programs and are providing some of the best courses in the southeast” UnKnown Author
