October 30th, 2009Weather going into the weekend looked great! However, the Rain Gods laid down some serious water leading up the practice day on Friday. With the track under inches of water only a few hours before, practice starting on time was out. Dalton RC Speedway is no ordinary track, it possesses some of the cleanest, richest red clay dirt in Georgia. Ed Weaver and his dedicated track crew worked for hours getting the track in top shape by late afternoon. By 4:00pm the track looked great and the racers started practicing. The weekend was sure to be great!
Pro Buggy –TQ Racing Driver Shannon Amos takes the race win but didn’t have the points to catch Dalton RC’s Edward Weaver who captures the GCS Title after an intense points battle with Losi duo Cole Ogden(3rd overall) and Shane Ogden(2nd overall). Paul Conway 4th and 2008 GCS Champion Kent Darley finishes 5th overall.
Pro Truggy – Panther’s Shane Ogden sprayed down his competitors with Champaign in the winner’s circle after capturing the 2009 GCS Title. Panther driver Randy Cooper takes his Sidewinder fueled Mugen into the circle after placing 2nd overall. Rick Marr 3rd , Kent Darley 4th and Xrays Tim Smith 5th.
Intermediate Buggy – “Mr. Excitement” Clay Walker takes the Championship win over Aaron Weaver. Weaver tied with Walker going into this race, had mechanical trouble in the main dropping him to 3rd overall. Marcus Izzo brings his A-Game by taking the 45 minute race win securing his 2nd place overall finish for the season. Travis Melton 4th and Mitchell Burkey 5th.
Intermediate Truggy - Incredible Race! 45 minutes of side-by-side Truggy action. Patrick Lowery and Alabama’s Kendall Burnett swap the lead for a solid 45 minutes. New comer Burnett takes 2nd less than a second behind Lowery. Ashley Fields is crowned State Champion after a great performance all year. Patrick Lowery 2nd, Ryan Hatton 3rd, David Hart 4th and Travis Dobbs 5th.
SLASH – Gene Snipes celebrates like a true champion in the GCS winners circle after becoming the 1st Georgia SLASH Champion. Snipes, dedicated from the start of the year, takes the points win with Eric Madden finishing 2nd. Joel “Stickman” Judkins takes 3rd, Kent Darley 4th and Travis”T-Bone” Melton 5th.
GCS Rd 9 – Phil Hurd Raceway Results
September 17th, 2009SCORE continues to grow and prosper in 2009. Club President Jason Brown and the dedicated crew spent over $2000.00 and many hours preparing for the GCS’s revisit. The track had a new design which included some new jumps, hard pipes, and the 1st signs of elevation changes that will be more prominent in the future. Perfect for some GCS Rd 9 and the R/C Pro Series East Division which SCORE will be hosting in two weeks.
Pro Buggy – “Hard-Hitters” from across the region were in attendance for the race. Losi’s Travis Dupree TQ’s and runs away from the field early and never looks back. Associated driver Brandon Melton battles with Kyosho’s Travis Phillips for the 2nd position. Phillips taking 3rd and Melton taking 2nd at the end. Kevin Bullock takes his Xray to a respectable 4th place finish. Int. Buggy – What a race! Hometown kid Mitchell Burkey battles with motocross legend Larry “Big Bird” Ward. Burkey taking 1st showing the motocross legend how it’s done with R/C cars. Ward taking second but not with out constant pressure on Burkey the entire race. Matt Allen finishing 3rd and Charles Yates 4th. SLASH – Joel “Stickman” Judkins takes his Stickman power SLASH into victory lane after an intense battle with Eric Madden, Chat Howard and Travis Melton. Finishing order Judkins 1st Madden 2nd Howard 3rd and Melton 4th.
